I collaborated on the creation of Coca-Cola Smiles, crafting an interactive experience where smiles reward Coca-Cola cans

In partnership with Coca-Cola, Intel and Ava Retail, Coca-Cola Smiles aimed to create a memorable and fun experience, combining cutting-edge technology with brand engagement. This innovative display unit encouraged customer interaction by dispensing free Coca-Cola cans only when users smiled. My role involved connecting the visual elements with the underlying technology to ensure a seamless, enjoyable user journey. I collaborated closely with both the Coca-Cola team and manufacturers, aligning the experience with Coca-Cola’s brand and engagement goals.

Intel RealSense

For the Coca-Cola Smiles project, Intel RealSense Creative cameras provided real-time facial data to create an interactive, smile-driven experience. These cameras precisely detected user expressions and demographics, ensuring only genuinely smiling customers received a Coca-Cola. These insights enhanced the engagement experience and provided Coca-Cola with valuable consumer data.

Facial Recognition

Leveraging Intel RealSense cameras, we developed proprietary software to track and measure users’ smiles with precision. This technology ensured that users genuinely engaged by smiling to a certain degree before a can of Coca-Cola was dispensed. The RealSense cameras interfaced seamlessly with our software, enabling a dynamic, responsive interaction. Based on users’ smiles, the system displayed customised messaging, such as prompts to “Smile a little more!”—creating an engaging, interactive experience that enhanced brand connection.

Analytics & Reporting

With our proprietary technology, we provided Coca-Cola with comprehensive analytics and reporting via a robust cloud-based SaaS platform built on Microsoft Azure. This platform offered Coca-Cola valuable insights, including user preferences, wait times, total engagement metrics, and more. Through seamless integration with cloud and BIM technologies, we delivered high-level data visualisations and reports, enabling Coca-Cola to gauge the effectiveness of the campaign, monitor consumer behaviour, and refine future strategies based on real-time and historical data.
